We later ventured onto Belle Isle. Once an obvious playground for the wealthy with a yacht club and boat house, it is currently mostly abandoned. This aquarium was the first in the country, built in 1904, and now sits vacant next to the conservatory.
This past weekend was the annual Shiver On The River event and the aquarium welcomed 4,000 people coming through to check out renovations, newly filled tanks with more fish, fish on loan, and art exhibits in some of the empty tanks. Check my Tumblr for some photos soon!
I had an exhibit of the Abandoned In Detroit fashion showcase project that I’ve organized since 2005.
